Our ‘SWEET’ Journey

The humble beginnings of a 'sweet' Maple Journey.Photo of Braedyn looking into buckets to see if there is sap yet.

Bill and Jordi Butler, (along with their two little sap haulers), are the owners and operators of Timber Isle Maple Products. It had been their shared dream of owning land since they first met as Forest Fire Fighters in 1999. Their dream became reality in 2009 when Jordi, having exhausted almost all avenues to search for land for sale, decided to put a ‘WANTED TO PURCHASE’ add in the local paper. The first call she received was the one they had been waiting for.

After purchasing the land that autumn, Jordi asked for maple syrup spiles and buckets for Christmas.

place on my ‘Bucket List’ – Jordi Butler

She received 10 spiles from her Mother and Father-in-law as stocking stuffers. While Bill was clearing the site of their future home, Jordi, with her son in tow, built an open-air ‘arch’ made from old garden slabs and using instructions she found on the internet.  Using Bill’s Pappa’s old pots…she successfully made 2.5 gallons of delicious amber syrup that was given out as guest gifts at her son’s first birthday party!!  And so began the addiction…

Bill too was bit by the sugaring bug that year and they have steadily grown their sugaring business year by year, tree by tree…and there is no sign of slowing down!

Why Timber Isle?

Bill and Jordi have been asked time and again where the name ‘Timber Isle’ came from. After brainstorming potential names for their sugaring business and not being satisfied by their results, Bill suggested ‘Timber Island’ on account of the unique shape of their land when viewed from satellite imagery. This unique shape of land is the result of a large part of their land being surrounded on almost all sides by wetlands, essentially creating a ‘Timber Island’.  And so the name was born…
